AURAIYA (UP): An executive engineer of Public Works Department (PWD) was allegedly lynched by some unidentified persons, believed to be supporters of the local BSP MLA here, about 100 kms from Kanpur. According to a report lodged with the police by Shashi Gupta, wife of deceased M K Gupta, two unidentified men entered their house in Gail Vihar in Dibiyapur forcibly on Tuesday night and started beating her husband badly. They locked Shashi in a bathroom and continued beating the engineer, injuring him seriously, the report said. Later, local BSP MLA Shekhar Tiwari allegedly reached the spot and left the seriously injured engineer at a nearby police station, from where he was rushed to the hospital, the wife said, adding that he was declared dead at the hospital. ADGP (Law and Order) Brij Lal said in Lucknow that police were looking for Tiwari who is absconding. The role of Tiwari is under the scanner, according to police. EGYPT: Again, Internet almost dead for a day “Do you have access to the Internet?” Egyptians kept asking one another all through Friday. The answer was the same everywhere: “No access at all.” Internet service collapsed after six undersea cables linking the Middle East and Europe were damaged last weekend. Since then, the government has been trying to repair the cables. The service has been back up since Sunday but not at full capacity. The government said that the service improved by 85% on Sunday. The Egyptian Ministry of Communications announced that it diverted the Internet traffic to other service providers through cables in the Indian Ocean. It is still not very clear what led to the damage. The ministry has been calling on people to ration their Internet use until service gets back to normal. Egypt had a similar problem in January. "This is our first move to reach out to the large base of over 2 million Indians based in Europe," Sudip Bandyopadhyay, chief executive of Reliance Money, said in a statement. SRINAGAR, India : Violence ebbed in Indian Kashmir on Saturday and authorities relaxed the curfew for six hours to allow people to buy food and other essentials, police said. Two groups of hundreds of protesters briefly came out onto the streets of Kashmir's largest city, Srinagar, but dispersed after raising banners saying "We want independence from India" and "Release separatist leaders." There was no confrontation with thousands of security forces deployed to enforce the curfew, a police officer said on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the media.
